Everyone knows that while wrestling is a pre-determined form of entertainment, it’s not easy on the body in any way.
Wrestlers not only have a demanding job in the ring, but the rigours of travel for live events and more leaves them away from home for nearly 300 days a year at times.

Wrestling is the one genre with sport elements that never has an off season. There is no rest for WWE superstars and the calendar just keeps going.
But, what if they did take a break? Wouldn’t that be good for the superstars’ bodies and minds?
Wouldn’t it help WWE to feel fresher if it went away for a month a year, or whatever the time may be?
Current NXT Tag Team champion Pete Dunne spoke to talkSPORT’s wrestling show talkWRESTLING last week and wondered if the current enforced break due to COVID-19 might be a good trial for a wrestling off-season.

“I think it’s a much-needed break in a way,” he said.
“I think for years and years we talked about maybe, is there a way that wrestling could have a kind-of off-season. I think this is a good trial for that for some of us. To be able to be back in England with my family and being able to train a bit differently to how I would if I was on the road and wrestling all the time.
“I’m just trying to put a positive spin on something that’s hugely negative [coronavirus/lockdown]. But if I was going to [have an off-season], then spending time with the family, training hard, recouping and then coming back better.”
The apex of the wrestling calendar is WrestleMania every April, but then it gets right back into action with the RAW after WrestleMania the very next night – and it keeps on rolling.

WWE is pretty much the only company that keeps up such a demanding schedule and even they have had to consider stripping back live events once the world regains a semblance of normality.
Dunne also spoke about his tag team with Matt Riddle, NXT UK and how he’s coping with lockdown during an interview you can hear on talkWRESTLING. Download the talkSPORT app and catch the April 26 episode on catchup.
talkWRESTLING is on talkSPORT 2 every Sunday from 9pm with big name interviews from the world of pro wrestling.
