Eddie Hearn goes back and forth with Shakur Stevenson and Andre Ward after Josh Warrington jibe

Josh Warrington has agreed terms to unify featherweight titles with Can Xu next, much to the dismay of America’s Shakur Stevenson.

Britain’s IBF titlist Warrington will take on China’s Xu when boxing returns, most likely in Leeds.

Xu currently holds the lesser WBA ‘regular’ title, but is expected to be upgraded to full WBA ‘super’ champion status as the current king Leo Santa Cruz has moved up in weight.

This will allow him to have a legitimate unification with Warrington, leaving WBO title-holder Stevenson out in the cold.

Talks for a meeting between the pair have proved complicated and Shakur is far from impressed with the political manoeuvering that will enable the ‘Leeds Warrior’ to have a unification with Xu instead of him.

Stevenson posted: “I can’t get Warrington next.

“Eddie Hearn and Warrington decided they’d rather fight an interim champion with two losses instead of unifying his belt with me.”

This prompted an extended back and forth with Hearn, and even included Shakur’s manager Andre Ward.
