In the UK, over 1,000 people have tested positive for COVID-19, with the death toll at 9am on Sunday totalling 35.

Despite there being a three-week break from football in the top four divisions in England, official club accounts managed to preoccupy themselves over the weekend.

Southampton, who were originally supposed to play at Norwich on Saturday, challenged their opponents to a game of noughts and crosses.

But with no reply from the Canaries by ‘half-time’, Man City swooped in to take on Saints.

The match ended in a goalless draw as Southampton tweeted: “An intriguing tactical battle comes to an end. One point please, @premierleague.”

City also said: “Decent point on the road in the circumstances. Always here if you fancy a rematch! Take care, guys!”

Meanwhile, Hull and Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen participated in a Connect Four game on Twitter as Bristol City and Eredivisie side Willem II followed suit.

Hull ran out 4-0 winners, while the Robins won by the same scoreline.

Elsewhere, Watford and Leyton Orient simulated their scheduled fixtures using Football Manager.

The Hornets drew 1-1 with Leicester, while the O’s suffered a 1-0 defeat to Bradford.
