Simon Jordan criticises Eric Dier over stand confrontation as footballers’ families 'want protected areas at stadiums' after Tottenham incident

Footballers’ families want to be seated in protected areas at stadiums following Eric Dier’s altercation with a fan last week, reports claim.

Following Spurs’ FA Cup fifth-round penalty shootout defeat by Norwich, Dier climbed into the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium stands to confront a fan.

The spectator was believed to be hurling abuse towards the midfielder, and his brother, Patrick, who was sitting two rows behind the fan, took issue with it.

Stewards had to intervene to hold Dier back as he was escorted away from the fan, with one eyewitness telling talkSPORT the midfielder ‘was like the Incredible Hulk’.

Subsequently, the England international’s actions are being investigated by the Football Association.

The Athletic claim players’ families feel like there should be a section of seats that are for them only in each Premier League ground to avoid similar incidents in the future.

It is understood many families choose not to travel to away games because they do not feel safe.

Meanwhile, talkSPORT host Simon Jordan does not understand why Dier entered the stands.

Speaking on Sunday’s Final Word, the former Crystal Palace owner said: “My first reaction was, what are you doing?

“Your brother’s in the stands, we would all be defensive of our family, but there are stewards there.

“You can’t do that, you don’t really need to do that. There’s security there and why you’re doing it? Are you frustrated with your team’s performance?

“Are you frustrated with the current opportunities you’ve been given at Spurs? Possibly not.

“That’s a thought process I had.”
