Like almost every single fan watching UFC 248, Daniel Cormier and Joe Rogan liked what they saw when Beneil Dariush knocked out Drakkar Klose.
However, you will find it hard to find anyone who enjoyed it as much as Cormier, the former world heavyweight champion, who literally fell into his co-commentator’s lap in the booth such was his awe.
The fight – on the Adesanya vs Romero card – was entertaining from the very first claxon, with Klose landing a huge right hand in the opening exchanges and seemingly drew the ire of the 30-year-old.
Dariush had Klose in a neck crank whilst backpacking the Michigan-native and desperately trying to get the submission.
But the second round was where the action really got going as both men decided to stand and trade and follow one another across the cage with bad intentions, but it was Dariush that landed perhaps the sweetest left hand of his career to end the fight and produce a stunning knockout.
Before Klose even had a chance to hit the canvas, both Rogan and Cormier were gasping for air as they struggled to contain their excitement at having seen such a perfectly placed shot land so flush it even knocked Klose’s mouthguard out.
The entire night was a true spectacle of entertainment until the main event, with Israel Adesanya managing to retain his middleweight world title against Yoel Romero in a fight which never got going.
However, the co-main event proved to be one, if not the, greatest women’s fight in the history of the company.
Zhang Weili defended her strawweight title against Joanna Jedrzejczyk across five pulsating, yet gruelling rounds at the T-Mobile Arena via a unanimous decision.
“There were so many great fights last night, but the women’s straw weight title between Zhang Weili and Joanna Jedrzejczyk was one of the greatest fights I’ve ever seen in my life and I can’t stop thinking about it,” Rogan posted on Instagram afterwards.
“I feel honored to be so fortunate to see that fight live and to be able to call it. Both women embody all that is best about being a champion.”
