Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin seem destined to fight each other one more time.
The middleweight superstars shared a contentious draw – which many felt Golovkin won – in 2017, with Canelo then narrowly winning their rematch a year later.
The pair have since gone their separate ways, though are now both signed to streaming broadcaster DAZN.
It’s known that DAZN have been frustrated with their inability to match the pair together over the past 12 months with Canelo seemingly nonplussed by the prospect of a trilogy.
Now though, the 29-year-old Mexican is said to be coming around to the idea of facing his bitter rival, who turns 38 next month, once again.
Canelo is on the verge of announcing his next fight against Billy Joe Saunders for May 2, though it’s said DAZN first want him to commit to the third GGG bout.
Speaking on The Athletic’s Pug and Copp podcast, journalist Mike Coppinger reported: “DAZN wants a commitment from Canelo Alvarez to fight Gennady Golovkin in September.
“And Canelo is okay with that, he’s totally okay with fighting Gennady Golovkin, but he wants some considerations in return.
“I’ve heard that DAZN – and John Skipper in particular – have come to Canelo and said, ‘Alright, fight Saunders in May, fight GGG in September, then we’d like to do Ryota Murata in December.’
“And then possibly I heard even maybe Dubai or somewhere like that next year.
“With this global app now launched they wanna take him on the road and make him into a real global attraction to pull in some subscribers around the world.
“And I think Canelo wants that too.”
The first two fights took place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, however a massive stadium venue could see a change of scene for the third contest.
Coppinger continued: “We need this Gennady Golovkin fight already, the guy’s gonna be 38 this year. The time is now for September.
“I do think it’s gonna happen, I’m confident in fact.
“And I’ve heard that Cowboys Stadium is the likely destination.”
