Robin van Persie believes Manchester United should sign Edinson Cavani this summer.
The 32-year-old will be a free agent at the end of the season if he does not sign a new contract with Paris Saint-Germain.
With Marcus Rashford sidelined with a back injury, Cavani was a January target for United, however, a move reportedly failed to materialise due to the wage demands of the Uruguay forward, who is said to have asked for a two-and-a-half-year deal on £360,000-a-week wages.
Instead, United brought in former Watford striker Odion Ighalo on loan from Chinese Super League club Shanghai Shenhua on transfer deadline day.
And during a Q&A session on Twitter, Van Persie clearly thinks his former club need to improve their front line when asked which striker United should bring to Old Trafford in the next window.
The Dutchman, who scored 58 goals in a three-year spell from 2012 to 2015, replied: “Edinson Cavani, brilliant player and available #GoalMachine.”
Cavani has scored 136 league goals in 196 appearances since joining PSG in a £55million deal from Napoli in 2013.
But he is currently behind Mauro Icardi in the pecking order at the Parc des Princes.
He has started just four Ligue 1 games this season, while being restricted to two substitute appearances in the Champions League.
