Terrifying footage of Khabib Nurmagomedov headbutting his opponents has resurfaced as talks of a potential rematch with Conor McGregor gather pace.
The Russian has assembled a stellar 28-0 mixed martial arts record since making his debut back in 2008 and currently holds the UFC lightweight title.
Recognised as the best 155lbs fighter on the planet (and potentially of all time) it is Nurmagomedov’s indomitable style of fighting which strikes fear into the hearts of opponents as his sambo wrestling and ruthless ground and pound has left every opponent battered and bruised.
Before drastic rule changes in MMA, there was a time when head-butting, groin strikes and hair pulling were allowed.
And at the Golden Fist Russia event in Moscow in 2010, ‘The Eagle’ made the most of the liberal rules as he battered opponent Ali Bagov with his head at every possible opportunity after taking him down.
In the end, Khabib won the fight by unanimous decision and extended his unbeaten streak to 8-0, having beaten three men in one night back in 2008.
The Russian, who wrestled bears when he was younger, beat McGregor back in their 2018 grudge match, before becoming the undisputed king of the division as he stopped interim champion Dustin Poirier.
The world is waiting and hoping to see the unbeaten star put his streak and his belt on the line against Tony Ferguson at UFC 249 in Brooklyn in April.
The fight will not only determine who is arguably the greatest of all time for this division, but sets the winner up for arguably the most lucrative night of their lives against ‘The Notorious’ himself.
Fresh from his stunning comeback win against Donald Cerrone, McGregor has now been promised a fight with the winner of that fight by UFC president Dana White.
“Khabib and Tony will fight in Brooklyn, and Conor will probably fight the winner,” White said.
“Conor’s talking about not wanting to wait that long, I don’t know what else makes sense, but who knows with that kid.
“The reason everybody loves him [McGregor] so much is because he could say, ‘You know what, I want to fight this guy now,’ some other weight class or whatever. But he keeps it fun.”
