A statement on Salzburg’s website read: “Due to a storm forecast to create gusts of up to 120 km/h in the Salzburg area this evening, the UEFA Europa League match between FC Salzburg and Eintracht Frankfurt has been postponed.

“The decision was made in a crisis meeting that UEFA, representatives of both clubs and the Salzburg police took part in, with the advise of local safety authorities being crucial.

“Due to the extreme wind forecast in the Salzburg area this evening, a safe arrival and safe experience in the stadium area could not be guaranteed for spectators or staff.”

UEFA then confirmed the news on its official Twitter feed. It has since been announced that the match will take place on Friday, kick-off 5pm GMT.

There was no news on any of Thursday night’s other 14 ties being affected, though Inter Milan’s home game against Ludogorets will be played behind closed doors due to fears over the spread of the coronavirus in Italy.
