The fast bowler, 24, will miss the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka, as well as the Indian Premier League season, due to a stress fracture of the right elbow.

Jofra Archer continues to struggle with an elbow injury

He is targeting the three-match Test series against the West Indies in June as a potential return to action.

Archer featured in the first Test against South Africa, but missed the remaining three due to his elbow problem as England cruised to a 3-1 victory.

It was a tour littered with injuries, with Rory Burns and James Anderson also suffering tour-ending blows, while several players fell ill.

England were hoping to have Archer fit for the upcoming T20 series against South Africa, but scans on Wednesday showed the problem is worse than initially feared.

The paceman will now commence an injury rehabilitation programme with the ECB medical team.

England will be desperate to get Archer fit and firing for the T20 World Cup later this year.
