Audie Attar says Conor McGregor is happier at 170lbs, but has refused to rule out a lightweight return.
The Notorious One competed in the welterweight division as he secured a first round comeback win over Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone at UFC 246 last month.
And his manager, Attar, believes it would be ‘unhealthy’ to cut down to lightweight.
He told MMA Fighting: “I look at all my clients as human beings and I’ve seen him at 145lbs, 155lbs and 170lbs in mixed martial arts and he just appears to be a lot happier at 170lbs.
“It’s not as strenuous on the body as it relates to the weight cut. That does not mean he wouldn’t be able to make 155lbs. I just think 145lbs is unhealthy.
“To go back down to that weight class would just be unhealthy.
“But 155lbs is doable and something I know he’s keen on doing again so that’s not out of the realm of possibility.
“But you can’t deny how comfortable he was at 170lbs. That was his normal frame. So not having to put your body through a rigorous weight cut, there’s something to be said about that.”
UFC president Dana White has publicly said he wants McGregor to face the winner of the Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Tony Ferguson fight on April 18.
McGregor would have to cut down to lightweight if that was to happen.
White praised the Irishman’s shape following his dominance over Cerrone.
He told the Jim Rome Show: “He looked unbelievable in this fight.
”And for people that are saying Cowboy is shot, Cowboy is this – Cowboy is one of the best and one of the baddest to ever do it and he showed up to win that night and Conor McGregor ran through him like a freight train.
“McGregor looks better than he’s ever looked. His head’s in the right place. Mentally, physically and emotionally, he is ready to roll and I can’t wait until his next fight.”
