Chelsea players wear stunning retro kit against Nottingham Forest to mark 50th anniversary of FA Cup victory

It was a blast from the past for Chelsea fans on Saturday as they welcomed Nottingham Forest in a shiny and stylish ‘new’ kit.

It is now 50 years since the Blues defeated Leeds to win the FA Cup at the end of the 1969/70 season, and the west London club and shirt sponsors Nike have partnered up to commemorate the victory.

Chelsea chose to re-imagine the kit worn in the 1970 FA Cup final, a game which is still one of the most iconic in the club’s history.

The Blues drew 2-2 against Leeds at Wembley as even extra-time could not produce a winner – and this meant there was a replay at Old Trafford, with the match again going to extra-time.

The stylish new strip above features the Blues iconic lion badge, and all the advertising from the club’s partners Yokohama Tires, Hyundai and Nike have been matched with the colour of the kit to blend in.

“It’s a classy, stylish and sophisticated shirt,” Mason Mount told the club website last month.

“A great way of remembering the iconic team of 1970 that paved the way for the successes of today.

“We know fans of all ages are going to love its simple design.”
