From claims that 5G causes coronavirus to assertions that eating garlic can cure the disease, the internet is awash with bizarre conspiracy theories amid the worldwide coronavirus pandemic.
Now, a strange theory is doing the rounds, claiming that ‘drinking breast milk can cure coronavirus.’
The theory suggests that breast milk ‘contains COVID-19 antibodies’ that when consumed, can protect you from catching the virus.
However, doctors have now busted this myth, saying there’s absolutely no proof that drinking breast milk can prevent coronavirus.
Speaking to CBS News, Dr Dyan Hes, a paediatrician with New York City’s Gramercy Paediatrics, said: “There’s no proof that breast milk at all can cure Covid or give you antibodies.

“There’s no data that I know of that has been published yet about it.”
Dr Hes added that while breast milk is good for a baby’s developing immune system, there’s little evidence that breast milk contains coronavirus antibodies that are helpful to adults.
He said: “There’s no proof of that yet, this is all hypothetical. [Breast milk] would be the lowest thing on my list.
“I think you can take some vitamin C and zinc if you want to, but do not buy breast milk to prevent Covid. That is not going to help you.”

While there are yet to be any studies into the effects of breast milk, one researcher has put out a request for breast milk samples to examine whether any of the antibodies could protect us in the future.
Dr. Rebecca Powell, an infectious disease expert at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, put out a call on social media for breast milk this week.
However, her research is likely to take months or years, and she explained to VICE that if any potential treatment could be derived, the antibodies would need to be purified and concentrated — not just drunk.
